IW OF Nasr City Club – Book Club meeting – Fabrica Novel

Book Club
IW OF Nasr City Club.
The Inner Wheel Club of Nasr City, led by Mrs. Sherine Arafa, and the
Inner Wheel Club of New Cairo, led by Mrs. Nihal Al-Bakry, hosted a Book
Club meeting on Saturday, January 20th/2024. The guest of honor was the
author Ahmed Al-Malwani, who discussed his novel “Fabrica.”

The novel discussed the issue of foundling children living in one of the
remote villages and how those in power exploited them.

These children were mythologized and controlled by the villagers, forced
to dwell in an abandoned fabric once owned by a Frenchman from the
village’s past. When the Frenchman’s adopted grandson returned, he
sought to understand their story.

The narrative wove together elements of the Pasha’s search for the
elixir of life and the revival of an old machine through lightning,
which transformed the outcast children into vengeful creatures. The
novel’s fantastical elements were metaphorically portrayed through a
wall, symbolizing unfulfilled dreams.
The meeting was graced by the presence of authors Mr. Mohamed Zohny and
Mr. Mohamed Ali Ibrahim, in addition to members of the Book Club and
both Inner Wheel Clubs of Nasr City and New Cairo.
