A Distinguished Cultural Evening with Novelist Ashraf El Ashmawy

The Inner Wheel Club of Alexandria East, headed by Mrs. Magda Sallam, in
collaboration with the Inner Wheel Clubs of Alexandria, hosted a
distinguished cultural event on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at the
Syrian Club in Alexandria. The event featured acclaimed novelist and
writer Ashraf El Ashmawy, one of the most prominent contemporary Arab
authors, who spoke about his literary journey and experience in writing,
with special emphasis on his documentary work “Legal Thefts.”

Mr. El Ashmawy opened the seminar by discussing the theft of Egyptian
antiquities and ongoing efforts to reclaim them. A lively discussion
followed, allowing attendees to engage directly with the author. Through
this dialogue, his unique literary identity—shaped by his legal
background, deep understanding of society, and distinctive blend of
suspense, psychological analysis, and cultural context expressed in a
captivating style—was clearly highlighted.

He also spoke about his latest publication, “The Last Symphony,”
offering insights into its themes and creative process.

The event was honored by the presence of:

Dr. Amal El Ghitany, Webmaster of District 95 Egypt & Jordan

Mrs. Nevine Abdel Rasoul, Treasurer of District 95 Egypt & Jordan

Mrs. Mona Aref, Past Chairman of District 95 Egypt & Jordan

The seminar was enriched by the active participation of Inner Wheel club
presidents in Alexandria, club members, and esteemed guests.

A special highlight of the evening was the celebration of Mrs. Iglal
Shaker, who was awarded the Pin of Honoured Active Membership, following
her nomination by the club in recognition of her dedicated efforts and
exceptional contributions. The pin was presented by Club President Mrs.
Magda Sallam, after which Mrs. Shaker delivered a heartfelt speech
expressing her gratitude for this honor.

A commemorative shield was also presented to the distinguished guest
speaker, and the gathering concluded with a celebration of members’
birthdays for October, November, and December 2025, followed by group
photographs.
