Center.
Beneficiaries 180 Residents
Under the theme “Step and Lead by Example,” and within the framework
of supporting humanitarian and community work, the Inner Wheel Club of
Alexandria East , headed by Mrs. Magda Salam, along with a number of its
esteemed members, visited the Rashida El-Hak’a Integrated Center for the
Challenge of Intellectual Disabilities on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The
center is one of the club’s sustainable projects.
The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Elham Kalthoum, Chairperson of the
Center’s Board of Directors, and Mrs. Sohair Salem Mahfouz, Vice
Chairperson.
The visit was successful and impactful, as club members spread joy by
presenting in-kind gifts to the residents, including boxes of biscuits
and chocolates valued at 1,640 Egyptian pounds.
The club also made a cash donation of 150,000 Egyptian pounds (one
hundred and fifty thousand EGP) as humanitarian support and a
contribution toward the continuation of the center’s mission.
Mrs. Sohair Salem Mahfouz accompanied the members on a tour of the
facility to observe the diverse activities carried out by its 198
residents (170 attending morning classes aged four years and above, and
28 in the boarding section).
The tour included the workshops—where residents learn handicrafts such
as leatherwork, wickerwork, accessories, crochet, and vegetable cleaning
and freezing—as well as the children’s section, boarding section,
activity rooms, and gymnasiums equipped with exercise facilities.
A notable and highly significant development this year was the
center’s adoption of the Maria Montessori Method, considered one of
the most suitable approaches for its residents. Developed by the Italian
physician and educator Maria Montessori, this method focuses on the
child while respecting individual differences and natural abilities for
exploration and discovery.
At the center, this method is applied with persons with special needs as
a therapeutic approach before being educational, emphasizing
independence and the development of sensory and motor skills through
simplified, practical activities. This enables residents to learn at
their own pace, build self-confidence, and acquire essential life
skills.
The management of the association expressed its sincere gratitude and
appreciation for the support and contribution of the Inner Wheel Club of
East Alexandri
