Alexandria Hosts First Forum to Combat Violence Against Women
Alexandria, Egypt – November 25, 2025
Under the theme “Step Up and Lead by Example,” District 95 Egypt &
Jordan commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of
Violence against Women with a landmark event: the First Forum on
Mechanisms to Combat Violence Against Women. Organized by the Inner
Wheel Club of Alexandria Capital, led by Dr. Ola Owais, the forum
brought together all Inner Wheel clubs in Alexandria, in collaboration
with the National Foundation for Family and Community Development, the
National Council for Women, and the National Council for Childhood and
Motherhood – Alexandria Branch.
The forum welcomed an inspiring assembly of leaders and advocates,
including Ms. Samia Abu El-Fotouh, National Representative for District
95 Egypt & Jordan; Ms. Hanaa El-Sadat, District 95 Chairman; numerous
district board members; and past chairpersons, reflecting the Inner
Wheel’s enduring commitment to women’s empowerment and social
change.
From 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, the forum hosted thirty women survivors of
violence, two of whom courageously shared their personal stories,
providing attendees with a moving perspective on the challenges faced by
survivors. Each participant received charity cards valued at 300 EGP,
along with 100 EGP to cover transportation—small but meaningful
gestures of support.
The discussions were enriched by a distinguished panel of experts,
including the Head of the National Foundation for Family and Community
Development, Director of the African Council for Women’s Health, Head
of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at Alexandria University,
Undersecretary at the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Rapporteur of the
National Council for Women, Director of the Fatwa Department at Al-Azhar
and Head of the Family House, General Coordinator of the Family House,
Director of Caritas Egypt – Alexandria, and a Professor of Psychiatry.
Their insights laid the groundwork for practical strategies to prevent
violence and support survivors.
The forum concluded with actionable recommendations, to be implemented
by a joint committee of Inner Wheel members and the National Foundation
for Family and Community Development. Initiatives will focus on
empowering survivors through small business opportunities, access to
materials, and tailored support to restore independence and confidence.
The event closed with a heartfelt luncheon, shared by all
attendees—including the survivors—in a warm and supportive
atmosphere. The gathering celebrated resilience, solidarity, and hope,
demonstrating that meaningful change begins with community, empathy, and
collective action.
This forum represents a major milestone in Alexandria’s ongoing
efforts to combat violence against women, highlighting the
transformative impact of women-led initiatives in fostering lasting
social change.
