Environment sustainability project
Women empowerment
On January 11, 2025, under the theme “Heartbeat of Humanity,” Mrs. Samia
Abu Al-Fotouh, the National Representative, and Mrs. Abeer -Dajani,
Chairman of District 95 (Egypt and Jordan), accompanied by their
distinguished board members and several club presidents, visited the
National Institution for Family and Community Development in the Asmarat
district of Mokattam The purpose of the visit was to inspect the Roof
Gardening Project, spearheaded by the Inner Wheel Lotus Misr Club, led
by Mrs. Maha Khairy, with the support of the club’s founder, Mrs. Nazek
Al-Alfi, and the active participation of several clubs from both Egypt
and Jordan.
This initiative is one of the district’s key environmental
sustainability projects for the year 2024-2025, and it has launched its
first phase by cultivating the rooftop of the National Institution for
Family and Community Development in Asmarat. The project utilizes the
innovative Dutch bucket technique to grow vegetables and fruits,
ensuring efficient water usage and fostering self-sufficiency for
families and the wider community.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the project aims to empower
women, particularly those who are the primary breadwinners in their
families. It offers training sessions to teach them the techniques of
roof gardening, as well as skills in marketing and selling their
produce, thereby helping them generate income and improve their
livelihoods.
The following Inner Wheel clubs are participating in this impactful
project: Inner Wheel Lotus Misr, Inner Wheel Zamalek, Inner Wheel New
Cairo, Inner Wheel Cairo West, Inner Wheel Cairo North, Inner Wheel
Garden City, Inner Wheel Nile, Inner Wheel Sharm El Sheikh, Inner Wheel
Nasr City, and from Jordan, Inner Wheel Amman.
