Where Books Inspire, Minds Grow and Souls Flourish .
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, under the Inner Wheel theme “Grow
and Flourish,” the Inner Wheel Club of New Cairo, under the presidency
of Mrs. Lana Abu El-Gheit, held its first Book Club meeting of the
2026–2027 Inner Wheel year.
The meeting featured a discussion of the novel Kom El-Nour by Professor
Dr. Reem Bassiouney, moderated by Mrs. Nehal El-Bakry, Founder of the
Book Club.
The gathering welcomed members of the Inner Wheel Club of Nasr City,
under the presidency of Mrs. Gehan El-Gomei, as well as the Lebanese
Cultural Forum “Forum Seventy” in Saida, headed by Mr. Walid
El-Assi, who joined online.
Set during the reign of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II (1892–1914) under
British occupation, the novel portrays his political journey and his
struggle against the dominant powers, highlighting his support for the
national movement, encouragement of political parties, contribution to
the establishment of Egypt’s first university, and support for
cultural institutions, until his deposition and exile.
The distinguished gathering was honored by the presence of Mrs. Kamla
Tawfik, National Representative of District 95; Mrs. Mervat El-Azzouni,
District Chairman, attending online, with wishes for her speedy
recovery; Mrs. Dalia Nour, Honorary Secretary of the District; Mrs. Hala
Hagras, Past District Chairman; Mrs. Mona El-Gemei, Past District Deputy
Chairman; Mrs. Ashnadell Hilmi II, Past Member of the Inner Wheel
International Board; and Mrs. Khadija Jaafar, Cultural Committee Officer
of Forum Seventy, Lebanon, together with a large and distinguished
number of Book Club members and Inner Wheel and Rotary members.
The Inner Wheel Clubs of New Cairo and Nasr City presented a shield of
appreciation to Dr. Reem Bassiouney, along with a commemorative gift
created by the children of Friends of a Bright Tomorrow—a beautiful
beaded tree from the Tree of Hope Workshop, established by the Inner
Wheel Club of New Cairo last year. Symbolic gifts were also presented to
the attendees as an expression of friendship, affection, and the strong
bonds that unite us.
The Presidents and members of the Inner Wheel Clubs of New Cairo and
Nasr City extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Dalia
Nour, Honorary Secretary of District 95, for her valued efforts and
contribution to the success of this memorable cultural gathering.
