A Thought-Provoking Literary Gathering.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, under the Inner Wheel year theme “Step Up
and Lead by Example,” the Inner Wheel Club of New Cairo, led by Mrs.
Rania El Kashif, organized its fifth cultural meeting through the IW
Book Club.
The event was held in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of Nasr
City, chaired by Mrs. Mona El-Saeed, and was attended by a distinguished
group of guests, including:
Ms. Mona Aboul Fotouh, Past District 95 Chairman
Mrs. Hala Hagrass, Past District 95 Chairman
Mrs. Reem Nazih, President of the IW Club of Giza
Ms. Dina Nashed, Past Assistant Rotary Governor
Mrs. Mona Elkeyie, President of the Rotary Club of Giza Metropolitan
The highlight of the meeting was a rich and thought-provoking discussion
of the book “Spies and Informers” by the renowned Egyptian writer
and researcher Mostafa Ebeid.
The book stands out as both captivating and exceptional, unveiling
previously restricted and “forbidden” documents from Egypt’s
political police during the British occupation (1910–1952). Drawing on
authentic British records, rare memoirs, and firsthand accounts of spies
and informers, it offers a rare behind-the-scenes perspective on the
operations and mindset of the occupation’s security apparatus.
The discussion was highly engaging and intellectually stimulating,
prompting deep critical reflection among attendees. Participants
explored several key issues raised by the author, challenging and
reshaping long-held beliefs and perceptions. It also highlighted the
powerful role that media and social media narratives play in shaping
public awareness and understanding.
The evening concluded as a truly enriching experience, marked by
meaningful dialogue, shared insights, and a strong spirit of collective
learning.
