IWC of New Cairo, headed by Mrs. Nihal El Bakry, in coordination with
IWC of Nasr City, headed by Mrs. Sherine Arafa, met for their second
cultural ‘Book Club’ at the Radisson Blu Hotel to discuss the book
‘Naomi and Her Sisters’ by Hisham Al-Khashin, which explores the concept
of Hypothetical Identity Disorder, a mental illness characterized by
significant changes in shape, appearance, and behavior due to the
patient’s past painful memories and experiences.
During the discussion, various questions were raised concerning the
reality of this disease and the level of accountability the patient
bears for their actions. Additionally, an analysis of the book’s
characters and the accuracy of certain medical information was
conducted. The writer skillfully achieved social awareness by addressing
several social issues and presenting them in a thought-provoking manner.
At the end of the session Mrs. Nihal -Elbakry gave a gift to all
attendees.
She took a moment to reflect on the challenging circumstances of the
world today, emphasizing the importance of empathy and compassion. The
audience left the gathering, carrying with them a renewed sense of unity
and a commitment to making a positive difference in the world.
