– The blue border represents Australia as an island continent surrounded by the sea, as in the words of the Australian National Anthem – ” Our home is girt by sea.”
– The Yellow background is symbolic of living in a land of sunshine.
– The colours of the boomerang are representative of the earthy ochres and sun-burnt country we live in.
– The choice of using a boomerang in the design was a reference to the original indigenous inhabitants of Australia.
